Tlatelolco 1968: Memory of an Anthropologist

Abstract

The paper is based on the closing lecture of the V Mexican Conference of Social Anthropology, held during October in the Escuela Nacional de Antropología e Historia in the year 2018. Half a century ago, the Student Movement of 1968 was finished with a massacre, while the students where in a meeting in Tlatelolco Square, Mexico City. The present paper is not The memory of that student movement, but only my memory of it as a member of the Strike National Student Congress. In those days the Mexican students asked for democracy and for the end of corruption in the public administration of the country. Also, the students asked a better way of life for Mexican people and the end of social inequality. Even though the student movement don’t get what all they want, Mexico change in many aspects of the public life.
