Ikofáfun: the ovum that comes from infinity

Given the fragmented vision that the role of women in Cuban religious expressions of African origin raises and the insufficient treatment of their rituals from a symbolic perspective; the following article explains the symbolism of the Ikofáfun female ritual of the Rule of Ocha-Ifá in the religious house Ifá yemí omó eníyan Oduduwa atí Oshún, Pinar del Río, Cuba, based on its dominant and instrumental symbols. The use of Symbolic Process Analysis introduced by Victor Turner allowed the identification of the Ikin seed as the dominant symbol and the representations of Eshú Alaroye, Ogún, Ochosi and Osún as instrumental symbols, as well as deducing its polysemy that revolves around the safeguard of pregnancy. , the protection of women and the acquisition of a new social role.
