Abstract

A study of the «hermandades» (brotherhood guilds) in two towns located in the southeast section of the «Comunidad» l Community] of Madrid: Valdilecha and Ambite de Tajuña. Using the basic typological criteria developed by Isidoro Moreno in his work Hermandades de la Baja Andalucía, we observe that the structure of the «hermandades» under consideration reflects such typology, but the same is not true of their functio?ality, since we find in turn communal-vertical-open guilds, performing group functions all along the year, at the sane time that they concern themselves instrumentally with communal functions: finantial support for the feast of the patron saint and singnif icant presence at this occasion of the officers of the guild.
