One of the special features of the Brazilian literatura de cordel, which has come clown to us, is its close link to folklore, and particularly to the folktales. The pliego suelto has been a significant vehicle for the transmission of burlesque tales, with wellknown folk types as main characters, as well as autochthonous figures of identical characteristics. The purpose of this work is to point out the schematic and archetypal features which the said characters present, and which are a clear reflection of the representations defined in folklore. lt is intended to build the corpus of burlesque tales, identifying the different types of stories which converge on each pliego, arranging and classifying them according to the types described in the lnternational lndex of A. Aarne and S. Thompson.
