The lnstitute «Bernardino de Sahagún», of the High Council for Scientific Research (CSIC), was the main official center for research in anthropology and ethnology during the Franco periord. This paper analyzes the main lines of enquiry laid clown by its director J. Pérez de Barradas, and the political and ideological constrains that led CSIC's cultural anthropology to a deadlock.
