La doble aportación laboral de las mujeres (1940-1965): Estrategias familiares en los hogares obreros del sur de Madrid para mejorar la economía doméstica

Between 1940 and 1965, the purchasing power of working families living in the south of Madrid was extremely low and, as a result, most of their working-age members would look for a job. Women were among them, in spite of certain cultural patterns that encouraged women to quit their jobs after marriage. Evidence from fieldwork indicates that their participation in the economy was even more active than officially registered, because many women worked underground in order to support their families. These women had to do chores at home, too.
