Confessions of conversion are a special type of ethnography because of their authenticity and human richness. On analysing those human crisis one realizes that converts pay a rigorous attention to their own spiritual suffering, and use this attention as an efficient cognitive strategy. Confessions from different times are compared to analyse the tension between religious experiences and cultural values related to an ultímate sense for life. The resolution of such relevant tension seems to be guided by the moral value of humility. The study of that can be useful to understand how cultural values work on cognitive processes.
