In the wake of the French journal Terrain and promoted by the «Angel Ganivet» Ethnological Research Center, of Granada, Fundamentos de Antropología came out in 1992, in the context of the discussions in Spain about the country's political identity. The founders of Fundamentos disliked regionalist or localist projects, as well as an anthropology they believed suffered from «an excess of rationality». They preferred a cosmopolitist anthropology; and one interested in aesthetics, without undue disregard for the social.
