The article describes the history of RAS from its inception by Carmelo Lisón in 1991 up to the present. RAS publishes either monographs or open volumes, alternatively. Spanish and European Ethnography, written by European or North American authors, has been its main focus. The most salient subjects covered by the journal have been: Local Culture, Cultural Limits, Linguistic and Collective Identity, History and Social Anthropology, Visual Anthropology, Techniques of Fieldwork Research and Urban Anthropology.
