Revista de Dialectología y Tradiciones Populares is Spain's oldest journal of cultural anthropology and folklore studies. Published by Spain's High Council for Scientific Research, the journal appeared in 1944 and has had an uninterrupted history ever since. In a first period, 1944 through 1978, contributions were based on a socially conservative concept of tradition and culture. In 1978, Julio Caro Baroja became director of the journal and opened it to new disciplinary and methodological perspectives in cultural anthropology, thereby inaugurating the journal's current era.
