Academic authorities often talk about the importance that students read and about the need of making reading a primary-school requirement. Reading, however, involves not only decoding a series of graphic signs but also paying attention to the life that lies hidden in literary works, which allows us to consider a way of living different from our own, identify emotions and feelings and, ultimately, widen our knowledge. Such is what this study aims at through a number of texts, e. g. the tale by Andersen referred to in the title.
