The author presents a lexical survey, including examples of folktales, and analyzes the different usages and meanings of the phrases «You shall blow the whistle» and «Blowing the whistle» as read in the works of renowned representatives of 19th-century Spanish literature and in those of Spanish and Spanish-American novelists of the 20th century.
